General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The GDPR (Regulation EU 2016/679) is designed to standardize privacy and data protection across the EU. It applies whenever personal data from an EU data subject is involved. It gives individuals more control over their data and promotes transparency in how that data is handled.
Even after Brexit, the UK still follows a version of the GDPR commonly referred to as the UK GDPR so UK-based businesses are also expected to comply.
Key GDPR Concepts
Controller and Processor
The GDPR sets different responsibilities based on whether you are a controller or a processor of data.
- A controller decides why and how personal data is processed.
- A processor acts on behalf of the controller and doesn’t make independent decisions about the data.
When you use Go Online Now-Connect, you are the controller. You decide what data is collected, why it’s collected, and how it’s used. That means you’re responsible for having a valid legal basis for processing that data and for making sure you don’t keep it longer than necessary.
Go Online Now-Connect acts as a processor. We store and manage the data you collect, strictly following your instructions. We do not access or use your data for any other purpose.
Legal Basis for Processing
Under GDPR, personal data can only be processed if there’s a valid legal basis for doing so. As the data controller, it’s your responsibility to identify and apply the correct legal basis (e.g., consent, contract, legal obligation) when collecting data.
Go Online Now-Connect relies on you, the customer, to determine the correct legal grounds and to ensure your privacy notices and consents are properly set up.
Data Subject Access Rights
The GDPR gives individuals (your customers) rights over their personal data, including the ability to access, correct, or delete it.
Go Online Now-Connect has processes in place to help you handle these requests. We’ll notify you if we receive one directly and act according to your instructions. Make sure you’re also aware of your responsibilities for data stored outside our platform
Transfers of Data to the USA
Personal data can only be transferred outside the EEA under specific legal safeguards. Our Data Processing Agreement includes Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) to ensure such transfers to the United States are lawful.
Data Security
We have strong technical and organizational measures in place to keep your data safe. This includes:
- Regular product testing for security vulnerabilities
- Backup systems and data recovery protocols
- Measures to preserve data integrity and prevent loss or unauthorized access
Our GDPR Compliance Steps
We take our responsibilities as a processor seriously and have taken the following steps to support your compliance:
- Our Data Processing Agreement includes SCCs for lawful international data transfer.
- We can detect data breaches and alert you quickly.
- We support subject access and erasure requests and notify you when these occur.
- We’ve reviewed and documented all data we process on your behalf.
- We regularly assess and improve our security measures to match the level of risk.
